Being around HP and MH alot since I live in the area, there aren't alot of good food choices outside of fast food, which are NEVER good anyway! I remember this place being a Mr. Coney forever and I had only went to it once and had the worst breakfast of my life. I had forgotten all about this place when i moved from MH back to HP and my sister started coming to breakfast here and I joined her a few times now. LOVE the breakfast!! You can get potatoes with onions, mushrooms and green peppers which i think is awesome and pretty rare nowadays! the food is always fast and hot and cooked correctly! The wait staff is always very friendly and I hear they make a mean bloody Mary!! I haven't had lunch or dinner here so I cannot vouch for anything but breakfast, but their menu is extensive and I've heard nothing but good things from others. They do offer beer and a full bar!!! Check it out for breakfast.. Good stuff!!

Where to start. 1st this place needs to be on robert irvine restaurant impossible. 2nd place needs a thorough cleaning especially the windows and blinds. Then this unfortunately made me question the rest of the place of its cleanliness. Plus the restaurant side where we sat was poorly lit. Which further made me question things. 3rd they use cheap ketchup. If they go cheap there where else are they going cheap? The fryer oil needed to be changed My son and I both had a bacon cheeseburger we both thought it was kind a lousy. Also the bacon was not crispy. The meat was subpar. The shoestring fries were overdone and the onion rings we're not fresh and/or hand made. They do take credit cards though now and our waitress was friendly. I hate leaving this kind of review for a local restaurant in my neighborhood but I got to be honest I do not for see myself ever going back there.

I went here a little while ago with my wife to try out a local joint that I have never been to. Probably not going back. I tried their coney which they advertised as like the best in town or what not. Boiled hot dog. Cheap canned chili. Very very disappointing. I really couldn't finish my food. All the food seemed to be cooked by deep fryer or microwave. On the bright side my server was nice and they have a full bar, which you'll need to hit first to enjoy the food. Any hoo if you like grease and stuff go here. If not well, you know

They ONLY take cash. Be prepared. THEY ARE SO CHEAP! I thought I was back in 1991. The area isn't so great, but I don't know if it was because I was hung over or what....but that was the best breakfast I had in my life. I had two eggs sunnyside up that were so delicious....best i've ever had. If I am ever down that way again, I am not sure if I would go back....I don't know if it will be as good as the first time lol. If you're hung over and want breakfast, check them out!

My husband and I go here pretty regularly. He goes for the dollar beers. I go because my cheap food standards are pretty low. If Starr is your waitress you should be ok but don't even bother going if she's not there. The rest of the staff including the owner seem to not want your business. They seem upset by you being there. Lots of unexplained dirty looks and seeming to have an attitude. The have a big bay door that opens to the patio. We went in one day and it was so cold because the door was open that I was shivering. My husband asked the waitress if it could be closed. She said no because it would get too hot but we could move to another seat. Birds come in and eat left over food off the terribly dirt floor. It's so dirty that a few days ago when I was walking to my seat my sandals stuck to the floor and literally came off my feet as I tried to walk. It is painfully obvious that they do NOT mop the floor probably ever. It's so dirty I question my own standards every time I return. We like Starr, a few select food items and the cheap beer but if Starr ever leaves so will we.

Its a coney island with cheap food and a full bar. The food is exactly what you expect (it's good not great). My real fuss point is that the staff lacks attention to detail/a desire to serve food in a clean place. I went there today for breakfast with some friends. When I sat down at our table, it was dirty I'm talking crumbs and drink rings all over the table. There was food all over the ground. I asked the waitress for a napkin to wipe down the table. She wiped down the table for me, but she said that last night's crew must not have cleaned up, which left me pondering what the kitchen was like....Nevertheless, I still ordered food. I got a ham and cheese omelette, which was thinly sliced pieces of ham (think lunch meat) with American Cheese. However, I must admit the hash browns, which I ordered well down, were pretty tasty. They were the round potatio slices and were quite crispyMy Bloody Mary was pretty run of the mill.

Nice little cozy place to grab a bite to eat. JJ's has a small bar top for hanging out or tables food eating. Lots of TV to watch with different channels on all of them. They do need a little more staff to help when a group comes in (high school kids). They staff was very nice.

Not good, so many other places that are better in the area. Don't like to ridicule a business but this is hardly a friendly place with good food - its the exact opposite! Save your $ and go basically anywhere else!

Best diner food. Huge menu, every time I try something on their extensive menu I'm impressed by it. The entrees are affordable and more than enough food for one. Great food, cheap drinks. Friendly staff, makes you feel at home. Things to try: Shrimp Tempura, beer battered fish, any sandwich and add ghost pepper jack cheese, fajitas, country fried steak, MAC AND CHEESE, and the breakfast is phenomenal. This place rules. Make it your new spot.

Since my first review, I've been to JJ's no less than twelve, thirteen times. I've brought my mother, my friends, and my boyfriend with me on numerous occasion and thoroughly enjoyed giving them my patronage. Many days after work, they're still who I turn to for a good meal. However, this afternoon I had an experience that both surprised and shocked me. The food was completely so-so for a change. The broccoli soup lacked its usual creaminess, the mac and cheese was so bland that it basically tasted of boiled noodles, and their pork chops tasted like thick slices of ham. The baked potato was also sad, wrinkled and tough. Since I've had nothing but good experiences prior to this, I could overlook the questionable food easily on one occasion. On top of the food being wholly mediocre, I received service so ghastly that I doubt I'll ever be giving them my service again, unless they have an owner with whom I can lodge a complaint. First of all, it was a carry-out order my boyfriend and I placed. We ordered the pork chops, their smothered chicken breast, their chicken quesadilla, a strawberry shake, and their large side of soup. We arrived, picked up our food like usual, and left. When we arrived home, we discovered that instead of no onions on my boyfriend's chicken breast, there was no mushrooms. He has such a severe aversion to onions that this basically ruins his meal. We quickly called JJ's back and asked for an exchange, and the girl who answered the phone was adamant that she heard him say no mushrooms, but said the exchange would be okay. Fair enough. I opened up my pork chops to find they tasted like nothing so much as ham and called just to ask if their pork chops normally tasted that way. Upon calling back, we were told that there was nothing they could do about either of our meals. That was simply how the pork chops tasted, and the girl on the phone had heard my boyfriend say no mushrooms, so that's that. I tried calling back myself since my boyfriend had handled the last two phone calls. The first two times, no one picked up. On the third time, the girl picked up again and I tried to ask her what was going on. I was upset at this point, but I did my very best not to be rude. I just told her that all we were asking for was an exchange, and that I didn't know where the miscommunication happened and I wasn't trying to blame anyone for anything, we just really needed this fixed if my boyfriend was going to eat. The girl kept stressing there was nothing she could do because she hadn't made a mistake, and my boyfriend had basically screwed himself. Midway through my attempts to explain, the girl hung up on me. I was at a loss. That has never happened to me before. These people are trying to run a business, and hanging up on loyal, regular customers who live only a stone's throw away is doing nothing but chasing away their clientele. I was so upset by this that I was shaking, and my boyfriend was willing to simply not eat at that point but I had him drive me up there so I could look at who hung up on me and try to get his meal fixed one last time. I was not treated any better in the restaurant. The moment I stepped in, a younger man saw me, gave me this startled 'oh crap' expression, and I believe he ducked behind the counter just to avoid dealing with me. I waited for a few minutes before anyone even came up to me, and it was an older gentleman who wouldn't really look at me and spent the entire time treating me like I was causing them trouble. I wasn't trying to pick a fight, just get a single meal fixed. I explained to him one last time, and he mumbled something about how he'd heard the girl say 'no mushrooms' just to show us he was on her side, and then finally went to fix the food. It was so uncomfortable at that point that I wanted to cry. This is one of my favorite restaurants, one I actually felt good about spending my money at because I felt they deserved it. Then they turn around and treat us like this. My boyfriend and I were actually on a quest to try everything on the menu, good and bad alike, because of how much we believed in this restaurant. I've had this exact same situation happen to me at Ram's Horn, where I asked for no peppers and extra zucchini, and the waitress heard and wrote down no zucchini and extra peppers, and for all I know I slipped and said no zucchini and extra peppers. As soon as the mistake was discovered, the waitress was nothing but polite and apologetic, and I apologized for the trouble profusely myself. It was fixed with minimal fuss and I had a great meal. I work at a restaurant myself and we would never dare treat customers like this. JJ's isn't doing themselves any favors with staff like this, and if it's their policy to treat their customers this way then we definitely won't be back. It's no longer a wonder to me why their restaurant is rarely busy. I'll be taking my business to Ram's Horn in the future, where at least I know I'll be treated well.

My family and I go in there mostly when Ms. Becky works. She is beyond attentive, not only to our table, but she takes her time for every table she is serving. We have told her many times the only thing she is missing is wings the way she flies around that place. Best server I have seen there, not to mention a pretty face to match the personality. As for the food, it's very consistent, but only if Johnny is there. He is the owner and it's apparant he takes pride in how he sends his food out. would I send my friends and family there? Only when Ms. Becky and Johny are working. Chicken fajitas are top on my list of foods.

It's a pretty good place. I like that it reminds me of a restaurant from a small town. It's kinda small but it most definitely had a small home town feel to it. After 8:00 on Monday they have cheap Long Island ice teas and they don't water them don't folks, so that's pretty nice :^) I also had fried mushrooms and some smothered chicks and my man friend had a chicken sandwich which was pretty good. All in all two meals plus 3 Long Island iced teas later it was only 25$. I think that's a pretty sweet deal. I will be back and recommend folks give it a try.

I have to say this is probably the best restaurant in town. Great food and even better drink specials. I have been coming here for about 2 years and have to say that the owner Johnny is the best cook they have! He goes out of his way to accommodate you and he cares about the food he prepares! Also the staff is great. Especially the new girls Kendal and Kristin. Great personalities to go with the great service they provide. I will be back and make sure i ask for them personally! Johnny your doing a great job!

I'm a regular here - for the food items that are good, the usually friendly service, the outdoor patio seating, and the great drink specials/prices. I guess I'm on a rotation of 4-5 different items that are all tasty. I have had a few other items that I'd avoid - the menu might be too big to have quality in everything... Nachos and burritos are best avoided. Fajitas, patty melt are best devoured. Another complaint is the Owners/employees hating the Home team (the Lions) when they are on TV. I'd like to go watch the game and have a couple drinks and lunch, but when the guy making your drinks is basically laughing and cheering for the home team to lose - it really ruins the mood. I'll be avoiding this place on Sundays forever... too bad for them - I like to drink, and so do my friends.

Went to this place right after moving into town. Good drinks and food and great prices. We were very happy after a long day. Not a place to go if youre looking for a gourmet meal but its a coney so you get what youre paying for but honestly I am a picky girl and I was happy.

  • Samir N.

What a diamond in the rough! We stopped in after a late happy hour and completely ravenous. This place is a steal and the food is not bad, at all (considering the price). It is like a nicer coney with a full bar. I support this.

I was hungry driving around this area (which is completely barren when it comes to places to eat) and saw this place randomly. I was lured in by the $1.99 Long island & $.99 Draft Beer sign and I am glad i decided to give it a shot. I ordered a veggie omelette (which they happily made with egg whites) and it was fantastic. And they have wifi so when it's a great spot for me to go at random hours of the evening and do homework with a cocktail. Kudos to this place!

  • Richard R.

I was there years ago with a good friend and the breakfast was pretty good, but this time it was 8pm and ultimately I'm very sorry I suggested this place. After ordering there was a series of events that ruined the experience. The waitress told my son the wing dings were boneless (they were not), she delivered food without ever bringing silverware or napkins and scurried off so we had to wait to start eating. I ordered fish and chips, it was more money to request the beer batter which the menu said "You won't be sorry!", well I was. They were cookie-cutter style previously frozen pieces served with unsalted fries and a side of mayo instead of tartar, my friends side of mac and cheese was burnt and we never received the side of corn... then there was the trip to the bathroom, it was filthy! The toilets were unflushed, there was blood on the floor as well as on the handle to get out of the room. It cost my table $35 for that and I'm hoping that the indigestion I'm dealing with now doesn't turn into full on hurling. We will never ever return.

So I'm back to write about JJs again because after trying to find another inexpensive breakfast place, I can't find a place that beats this. I do enjoy the upscale breakfast places too (e.g., Toast, Cafe Muse, etc.) but whenever I want a cheap, quick breakfast, this really is the #1 place. I've tried multiple times to find another restaurant, but each time, my fiance and I decide that JJs is better (and usually cheaper) and we should've gone here instead. Our loyalty for cheap breakfasts will be with JJs!

Walking distance from the house which is a big bonus. They have a large menu which can often spell disaster, but JJ's has some pretty solid cooks and I usually walk out of there with a good meal under my belt. These day's I'm partial to the chili which is always hot and tasty. You can never go wrong with their breakfast menu. Staff is friendly as well. JJ's does have a liquor license and a nice outdoor patio which is a great spot for late night drinks with friends. Definitely a bonus!

Full bar (with cheap drinks) + pretty good coney fare = an A-OK kind of place. Most of the time I get the grilled chicken pita and I'm always pleased. I need to check this place out for breakfast and report back.

Good food. Good prices. I like eating here in the morning and early afternoon. They have a better waitstaff and the environment is better. Less loud and not full of the bar bums. Still good food at night tho. I eat here way too much.

I live right around the corner from this restaurant and I've always passed by it but had never stopped by to eat. I finally did! My friend and I met there for brunch and it was a real treat. The staff was really friendly. The coffee was good and they even offered different flavors of creamers (hazelnut, french vanilla) which is a bonus! I ordered the Greek Omelette and it was huge! We easily could've just shared it. Our food came out right away and it was fresh. It tasted really good too. So all in all, I had a great experience!

I live just around the corner and have been a huge fan of JJ's Grill for the last 4 years (since before the rename and renovations). It seems random, but I always bring out-of-town guests for breakfast here, and they always want to come back. I eat there about twice a month. I come to JJ's mainly for ALL DAY BREAKFAST, which is fantastic. For some reason they have a gigantic selection of menu items (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), which actually seems almost excessive. Their breakfast is amazing and I have never been disappointed. They have specials that "run until 11am", but you can still get them at any time for 50 cents extra. I usually get the #1 special, 2 eggs (any style), 4 slices of bacon (cooked crispy at my request, and sometimes a couple bonus pieces show up on my plate) OR 4 sausage links or 2 patties (or any reasonable combination of meats), and hashbrowns (or pancakes), which comes with toast (white/wheat/rye). Including the 50 cent surcharge (I am NOT a morning person), that will cost less than $4. Why not splurge and get a coffee too? There are also many other breakfast options (e.g., pancakes, waffles, corned beef hash, omelets). The wait staff are attentive and friendly and they are very happy to accommodate any special requests on your order. Service is also pretty prompt (bringing the food, refilling water and coffee, etc.). They must not make much in tips since the menu items are so cheap! There are large flat screen TVs mounted around the restaurant to watch if that's your thing. The decor is pretty standard (nothing special), and I have seen them do several renovations over the last few years (including adding a summer patio). The only other thing I have eaten at JJs is the Coney and fries, which I have always enjoyed (though I am not a native Michigander, and am not very discerning about my Coney dogs). It took me a while to realize JJ's had a full bar, and I'm not sure why it's there. They have a lot of drink specials; apparently if you go after 8pm, they have really cheap shots and mixed drinks. I don't believe many people are around then, but if you and your friends are looking for a $2 shot, why not drop by and try their signature "liquid marijuana"? So, to summarize, JJ's is affordable, they have a wide variety of menu items, and their breakfast is simply the best. The staff are great too! p.s. (it is WAY better than the newly-opened Madison Grille just around the corner, in price, taste, variety, and service).

What a diamond in the rough! We stopped in after a late happy hour and completely ravenous. This place is a steal and the food is not bad, at all (considering the price). It is like a nicer coney with a full bar. I support this.
